How to Export PNG, JPEG, or WebP from Photasium

When the edit is done you need a file to send, post, or print. Export downloads PNG, JPEG, or WebP from this tab: the file never goes to a server.

A file you can send

Export composites the visible layers into one image and downloads it. Hidden layers stay in the document and do not appear in the file. The stack in the editor is unchanged.

PNG is lossless. JPEG is smaller for photographs. WebP is compact. JPEG and WebP have a quality slider. PNG does not, because it keeps every pixel.

A format the job can use

A feed usually wants a JPEG. Crop and Image Size first if the post needs a square or a set pixel count, then export.

WebP can be smaller still. If this browser cannot encode WebP, Photasium will say so, and PNG or JPEG will still download.

A product photograph

A listing photo is usually a JPEG. Use PNG if you need a transparent background. If the document background is transparent, JPEG fills those areas with white.

A screenshot of an interface

A screenshot of type and UI stays sharper as a PNG. JPEG is fine for a photo of a display, and it will be a smaller file.

Photographs prepared for print

A print lab often takes a JPEG at the pixel size you set. PNG is the safer pick if you want a lossless file to archive next to the download.

Exporting in Photasium

  1. Open a photo

Open the editor, then File → Open, or drop an image on the canvas. You can open PNG, JPEG, WebP, or GIF.

  2. Choose Export

Open File → Export, or press ⌘S.

  3. Pick a format

Choose PNG (lossless), JPEG (photos), or WebP (compact). The filename defaults to the document name. JPEG saves as .jpg. JPEG and WebP quality defaults to 92 percent, and the slider runs from 10 to 100.

  4. Download

The preview shows the look and the full file size at the current format and quality. Click Download PNG, Download JPEG, or Download WebP. The file lands in this computer’s downloads folder. There is no watermark.

Hide a layer if you want a version without it, then export. The document already autosaves in this browser. File → All canvases lists every canvas here, until this browser’s storage is cleared. Canvases do not follow you to another machine.

The download is a flattened file you can send. The document in the editor still has every layer, nothing was uploaded, and you can export again with a different format.

Come back later and the canvas is still listed under the editor, until this browser’s storage is cleared. Export sits with the other photo editing tools: crop the frame, set the pixels, download a listing.
